The sun was shining, the birds were singing, and there we were right in the middle of its warmth. Kaylee adds so much to the natural beauty of northern California, it’s like they were made for each other. We made good use of the local nature haunts, and we found a quiet, babbling stream and a surrounding meadow that gave Kaylee’s out-of-this-world charm a down-to-earth feel in the photos. She’s leaving Bear River High School, and plans on moving onward to Oregon to pursue a degree in computer science there. She’s excited about her move, but has made fond memories and grown greatly in high school. She remembers a specific obstacle she triumphed over: “I was going to school, and didn’t have much confidence. This made life hard for me, but I learned that, to overcome this, I needed to spend time and surround myself with people who loved me for who I was. They always make me feel beautiful inside and out.”
She keeps herself busy through sports and through communities in her school. She’s involved with a bunch of clubs, but her favorite is her leadership class. She loves to include and involve everyone, and plan fun events for everyone to enjoy. She also is active in volleyball and soccer, and throws shot put and discus. All of this is fun for her, and and that sense of joy is something she greatly values. She wants her classmates to remember first and foremost her bubbly personality, and her uncanny ability to always cheer up anyone feeling down. Her happiness is her confidence, and her mother is the one who inspires her to be this way. “My mom is so strong, and compassionate.” she says, “She does whatever she can, whenever she can. She is always there to make me smile when I’m feeling down, and does this for anyone who needs it.”
Getting to know Kaylee and her joy was a privilege I won’t often get to relive. One of the best parts of living in northern California, besides the beauty in its nature, is all the people that make it into the great place it is. The fact that I get to know some of the people that live here makes me a happy person, and that gives me a sense of confidence that I live in one of the best places on earth.
