It might sound a bit funny, but I’m truly proud of the seniors I work with. I feel lucky to be a small part of their lives, even just as their photographer. I feel excited for their futures, and really thankful to see their accomplishments. It gives me hope for the future, and especially as the world seems to be getting crazier and crazier, I feel confident that these young people will go out and do amazing things. Hailey was one of my reps this year, and I couldn’t have been more thrilled about that. She discovered my images after her friend chose me for her senior photos last year, and Hailey also had me do her cheer photos during her junior year. She explains, “I wanted to be a senior rep for Lisa, because I knew it would be an amazing opportunity.”
Colfax High School is where Hailey calls home, and she stays quite busy between her classes, as well as working hard to enter the medical field after high school. She has already earned her medical assistant certification (wow!), and has begun her pre-requisites at Sierra College. Somehow, amidst all of this, she manages to hold a part-time job at McCalou’s in Auburn, California. “I dream of one day being an Ultrasound Tech”, says Hailey, “I was initially nervous at my ROP class because I am the youngest there, but I’ve gotten to know my classmates, and have become comfortable. I really feel like I have the passion and dedication to be successful in my future. This lovely girl is humble, passionate, and patient; I know those traits will be so valuable in her career. Though she rarely has free time, you’d likely find her enjoying time with friends and family when she does. “My favorite memories of high school would have to be the senior sunrise, and the football games”, she adds.
During her shoot, I tried to meet Hailey’s vision: to feel grown-up, as well as casual. We also wanted to capture her personal, bohemian-inspired style with lots of different locations. I love the image of her reflection in the water, as well as the couch in the alley. I know within a few years, I’ll be pleased to see Hailey edging closer and closer to her goals!
